White Sands Landscape
Photograph the magnificent beauty of rolling white sand dunes and open skies . . .
The White Sands Landscape
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
This workshop will provide an opportunity to visit one of award-winning photographer Craig Varjabedian's absolutely favorite places to photograph—White Sands National Monument. He has returned to these beautiful dunes again and again and White Sands will be the subject of his upcoming book to be published by the University of New Mexico Press in 2018.
In this dynamic workshop, you will explore the dramatic terrain of White Sands National Monument in southern New Mexico. You will experience the legendary allure of rolling sand dunes and the stark beauty of landscape and sky.
Our workshop will begin in Alamogordo in south central
New Mexico, as we spend three days at White Sands National Monument
exploring the rolling white sands. The challenge of this
workshop will be in capturing the high-low contrast of this remarkable
landscape. The intrepid photographer will be rewarded with indelible
images of dream-like scenes and lost eras when a different aesthetic
prevailed. You will be photographing this desert environment in an atmosphere
of intensive exploration and discovery, with Craig providing hands-on
one-on-one guidance in the field as needed.
Whether you are pointing your camera at a huge sand dune or capturing the dynamic
weather that is common here, you'll have many opportunities
to make great photographs.
Join us for the Photographing
the Bisti Badlands workshop (right after White Sands) and explore this hidden jewel with your camera. Time and natural elements have etched a fantastic world of strange rock formations.

ABOUT THE STUDIO DAY
On the Friday after photographing at White Sands, we will head back to Santa Fe for a day at Craig’s studio.
This one day add-on session in the studio will explore how to best finish your images, share them for comment and feedback and learn how to print them. We will have an in-depth discussion of printing methods to achieve the best possible print from your image files, even if you do not print yourself. Being able to create proper image files will allow others including online labs to make great prints of your work.
includes lunch and a finished print of one of your White Sands images.
