ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Santa Fe was called the Dancing Ground of the Sun by early Native American inhabitants and nicknamed The City Different by town fathers at the turn of the 20th century. By any name, Santa Fe is one of the world’s top award-winning and most beloved destinations—four centuries of history and legend, ancient and modern cultures, surrounded by a majestic landscape of juniper and pi ñon-covered hills, aspen and cottonwood groves with deep blue skies and radiant light.

With ancient adobes, big skies, and stunning vistas to photograph and inspire you, come to the most enchanting place in the United States. Northern New Mexico has a variety of stunning landscapes from rugged mountains, to rivers and streams, national parks, and historic churches, villages and plazas. Here three cultures came together in harmony: the Native Americans since ancient times, the Spanish of 400 years, and more recently the Anglo traditions bring together a rich heritage. New Mexican faces reflect both the intimate beauty and rough-hewn grandeur of this enchanted land.

You will photograph cowboys with their horses, unique rock formations, river overlooks, mesas and mountains and historic adobe architecture for a truly authentic taste of New Mexican history and culture. Award winning photographer Craig Varjabedian will share his favorite places and people with you and guide you to the best locations to capture the magical light that has inspired artists here for centuries.

Because we have established personal relationships, you will be able to have unique experiences—from capturing local cowboys to photographing spectacular sunsets at a historic hacienda. We will base out of Santa Fe and venture out with our cameras each day. You will receive hands on guidance and personal attention in the field, so everyone receives the assistance they need at their own level.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Whether you are pointing your camera at an adobe hacienda or capturing the dynamic weather, you'll spend time challenging yourself and homing your image-making skills. During the workshop, we will be out photographing in both morning and evening light. You will receive hands on guidance and personal attention in the field attuned to your level.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This workshop is terrific for all digital photographers well grounded in both manual and program modes of their digital camera. You should be prepared to carry your own gear and be capable of walking and light hiking on trails and varied terrain.

WHAT TO BRING
Lots of enthusiasm for making pictures. Your digital camera with lenses, tripod, and filters. A laptop computer to download and store your image files each day. (We will provide a complete list of necessary gear before the workshop begins.)
