A TASTE OF NEW MEXICO WORKSHOP SM
the Bisti Badlands
Our Taste of New Mexico WorkshopsSM are
abbreviated versions of some of our popular New Mexico offerings
and are generally two days long. They are a kind of delightful
amuse-bouche or delicious smaller serving of our regular workshops.
In these offerings you will have an opportunity to get a taste
of an Eloquent Light Photography Workshop by photographing with
us at an exquisite location. You will also receive excellent field
instruction and feedback on your images as needed. These workshops
are designed for photographers with limited time, yet a strong
desire to make wonderful pictures.
No-interest payment plans available: Please inquire.
― Edward Abbey, Desert Solitaire
Hidden away in the Four Corners region of New Mexico lies the Bisti Badlands and the De-Na-Zin Wilderness. Join us for two days of exploring this 45,000-acre desert wilderness area that contains the eroded remains of an ancient inland sea with photographer Tye Hardison.
What: Time and natural elements have etched a fantastic world of strange rock formations made of interbedded sandstone, shale, mudstone, coal, and silt. The weathering of the sandstone forms hoodoos—weathered rock in shapes of pinnacles, spires, cap rocks, and other unusual forms.
workshop is terrific for all digital photographers who have a good
understanding of their camera and are able to manage and edit images
on a computer. You will need to be able to carry your own gear and
be capable of walking/hiking for three to five miles on rugged terrain
on each field trip. You will need
to have Lightroom installed on your laptop computer and have a basic
understanding of the software. You need to know how to use auto bracketing
on your camera.
Plan: Weather permitting, our plan is to be up early to catch first light on these lunar-looking formations and eventually the more pronounced shadows as the sun rises. In the afternoons we will be back at the hotel where we will present examples of the instructor’s images along with discussing techniques for dealing with the extreme lighting challenges of the Bisti. Late afternoons will be spent photographing and searching for the perfect location to capture an amazing sunset. Weather permitting; we will photograph the night sky!
