Photographing the Enchantment
Chimney Rock Sunset About the workshop: Georgia O'Keeffe. Elliot Porter. Laura Gilpin. Peter Hurd. Come and experience for yourself the land that influenced these artists' ways of seeing, thinking, and creating. You'll discover the uniqueness of New Mexico — the high desert land and light, the different cultures, mountain and mission — that has drawn people here for centuries, as Santa Fe celebrates its 400th Anniversary. You will explore the diverse culture, architecture and landscape of northern New Mexico, learning how to capture the "power and beauty" with your camera. While based in Santa Fe, you will travel to locations within easy reach of Santa Fe, where you will receive one-on-one instruction in the field, on technical and aesthetic issues, to help you on your photographic journey. You will also have class sessions for feedback on your digital images and ongoing discussions about different aspects of the medium.
Shutter Detail, La Cienega, New Mexico 2009 Field trips involve exploring how to capture the essence of a place — from picking the best vantage point to exploring the site; shooting from the hip for those marvelous spontaneous moments; and the patience to set up your tripod and wait for the magical light of New Mexico. Images you might see in your viewfinder are: adobe haciendas and churches, desert vistas and winding rivers, mountains and movie sets, sunrises and sunsets. Whether you are pointing your camera at a magnificent rock formation or capturing the dynamic weather that is common here, you'll spend time challenging yourself and improving your image making abilities. Constructive image sharing sessions in a collegial environment provide valuable insight on ways you can improve your pictures.
